The Newcastle Business District has been a longstanding part of the community, though it has been called by several names since its formation.

Created in 1983, under the name of the Newcastle Business Association, in order to ensure the Town of Newcastle had a strong and vibrant downtown that all its citizens could be proud of.

In 1999, following Newcastle’s incorporation into the new City of Miramichi, we were renamed the Downtown Miramichi Business Network.

After the completion of a Downtown Revitalization Strategy in 2006, which focused on strengthening Miramichi’s two downtowns, we adopted the name DowntownS Miramichi- Newcastle Business District.

While our name has changed through the years, the objective of the Newcastle Business District remains the very same as that of the Business Association in 1983; to ensure the preservation of a strong and vibrant downtown business community.
